Descripción

Small but stiff and prickly leaves with a distinctive two tone pattern in a basal rosette. Growing on recently disturbed soil. Leaves about 3-5 inches long.

This thorny, erect 1/2 inch diameter stem stood alone in a road clearing made through a small canyon by utility workers for maintaining drainage and flood control features. I was intrigued by its trunk-like quality.
