These lovely little moths had clearly spent the night inside this Calycoseris parryi head, which was just opening for the morning. There was a third individual that flew off as my camera approached.

scarlet loco, Astragalus coccineus, California, White Mountains, Black Mountain, Owens Valley watershed, elevation 1590 m (5215 ft).

Never was there a more definitive scarlet than this species!

Johnson linanthus, Linanthus bigelovii subsp. johnsonii, California, White Mountains, Black Mountain, Owens Valley watershed, elevation 1417 m (4650 ft).

The subspecies johnsonii was named in 2015 to account for the non-glandular plants in the western part of the species range, including here in the White Mountains. Turns out that typical subspecies bigelovii from Arizona is sparsely stalked glandular on the upper stems.
