Has been roosting in the same area for several days. It appears there may have been another one nearby as we heard some calls that seemed to be coming from another spot near this one. This bat's location is known to Zoo Miami conservation and they are working on trying to relocate it or putting a bat house nearby to avoid any interactions with humans. I shot this photo with a zoom lens and didn't get too close.

I cut down a dead pine tree, killed by pine beetles. While limbing the downed tree, I noticed very large chunks of the bark were completely loose and peeling off. I discovered 8 silver hair bats underneath the bark. The bats were unharmed. I covered them back up and put 2 cut-up apples near them. I will be hanging up bat houses later this week. My property is right on a pond/wetland and I definitely want them around for mosquito control.

This is the second morning I have seen many crows waiting outside the bat houses for one to emerge. This morning in particular I actually saw a crow catch the bat with its talons midair and take the prey item atop the bat houses. Previous mornings there has been a Red-tailed Hawk and Mississippi Kite in the area as well, the hawk was also looking for bats and there’s an occasional mockingbird dive bombing them.

Mom with two babies found on a old palm leaf that fell out of the palm. I placed the leaf off the ground in the shade next to some palm trees so hopefully she could climb up. They were gone the next day so hopefully they did.
