Larvae make messy silk nests in Sideroxylon salicifolium, window-feeding on the underside of leaves as they incorporate them into the nest. I found this one exposed, but at the slightest touch of the branch from me, it scooted backwards deep into the shelter. Its head capsule was light green. I can't find a record of what species this might be on this host, but it's rather common.

This was crazy! Not too sure why (or how), but this wasp definitely stung the dragonfly, took it down, and maybe was eating it? Definitely something I've never seen before. My fear of wasps didn't help while I was photographing it and just looking at these photos again is giving me chills.

Found this blue egg ~2 cm in diameter randomly on the ground. It had a small crack and I didn’t see any vascular tissue in it using a flashlight, so I set it back outside.

To this date, the second largest Burmese python caught in the Florida Keys. The animal was located in a novel way, it had eaten a Virginia opossum outfitted with a satellite telemetry collar. After a set period of inactivity, the collar would send off signal indicating that the animal was dead. Well this happened, and then the collar would move a few hundred feet, then go back on mortality signal, then move again and so on. After a week of this, we decided to go see what was up with the animal, so we tracked it to the hardwood-mangrove edge underground, odd for a opossum. We set up a grid of camera traps and baited them with cat food and no opossum showed up. A few days later, we tried digging at the point where the signal was strongest, thinking that maybe the collar slipped and after an hour we saw scales! We were able to extract the python that day after quite a fight pulling her from her burrow.

On Sesuvium portulacastrum. This was very cool—several mines, largely on the upper surface of these thick, fleshy leaves. I saw larvae poking out of two of the mines and managed to photograph one of them (first three photos), which retreated into the mine when I bumped the plant.

Keyed using Robinson (1964). Femora mostly or wholly pale, mesoscutum without whitish spots, dark spots above bases of wings not sharply defined, hind femur with a single preapical bristle near upper edge, last part of fourth vein with a distinct bend near or beyond middle, mid tibia with 2 ventral bristles (1 near apical 2/5ths and another on the distal 1/3rd), scutellum with 1 pair of setae, bare dorsally, clypeus not ridged, oral margin straight, face with yellowish pollen, hind femur darkened on the dorsal edge
Found on the edge of a mangrove forest, very abundant on the wet, tightly packed and flattened soil covering the roots of trees.
