Descripción

Confirmed as M. orbiculatus both morphologically and with DNA. Plants germinate after fire and are short-lived. The current population is on its way out until the next fire. Maybe 100 living plants and 900 dead plants total in population, but a more thorough survey could yield more accurate numbers. In bud, flower, and early fruit. Cattle browsing on many plants has removed the inflorescence before going to fruit. Cattle could possibly be a dispersal mechanism if they eat the inflorescences once fruit has matured, but they are likely a threat to the persistence of the species in this area if they eat the inflorescences before fruit is mature.
