Found while sweeping small white box through tall grass
Honda the bold jumper! I named him that because he somehow lived behind the glovebox of my Accord for a few days without food and through sweltering heat. I first found him on my passenger window while parked, so I rolled the window down to say hi. I guess that spooked him and he scurried into the car, stopping briefly on the door handle to make eye contact before booking it to the space under the glovebox. I tried to catch him but he was too fast, lol. I bet I looked really strange in the parking lot bending over my dash/cup holders to root around in the space where the passenger’s feet go.
I left it at that and said RIP since my car has a black interior and it was really hot that day…
A couple days later I was driving home from graduation commencement rehearsal and he was just sitting on my dash! I saw him and said out loud “Oh hi, I thought you died!”
I glanced at him every few seconds as I exited the highway to keep track of him; he crawled from the dash to the ashtray(where I keep my receipts lol) to the little space with the USB outlets, where he hung out until I got home. I managed to prod him into my coin cup(which had been emptied beforehand) and paparazzi him before depositing him onto a gas pipeline pole where he could get some sun and find food.
If you read this whole thing, fave this observation, and I’m
sorry for making you read it lol
Fairly sure this is the same individual as in https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/117056969. She's living on the underside of a step ladder I had left out on my porch. I think she has an egg sac up in there (not shown), but it's hard to tell for sure.
