Interested to know what is going on here - ants clustered around these on a Eucalyptus twig.
Photos 1-3 as found, in situ.
Photo 4 shows underside, but over exposed so lacking detail (note white circle on leaf where it was attached).
On large gum - see photo 5.
resident says this plant is a recent arrival not planted.
There is also a large occurrence of a very similar looking plant apparently at least 2 m high about 20-30 metre away beside a big stand of Kahili ginger. The plant similar to this is not able to be seen close up as that bank is now very steep, having slipped.https://inaturalist.nz/observations/192619515
Caught by my cat, and cut in left middle stomach, the bleeding has stopped, and healed mostly. Lost a few scales. Large forest and creek in backyard so probably brought over from there.
Found in the backyard, I have cats so will release in native bush.
