Went to the Chaparral Wildlife Management Area to look for some bugs. Wind gusts of 20-30 mph and lack of rain for months... Nonetheless, quite a few bugs showed up!
Will work on these ID's later on.
Hard to spot on the tree trunk. Sort of brown and dark grey, and it is camouflaged. Oval shaped insect. Part of the pentatomidae family.

The beetle-like insect was moving across the cool rocks slowly. The outer "shell" was mostly dark gray, but light red striping was seen along the edges. These liked the shady corridors of the Rocky Desert Scrub.
