A large red-eyed fly on Petasites frigidus ssp. palmatus (Western Sweet Coltsfoot), which attracts many insect species later in the spring. This is the first insect I've seen on this plant this cold spring.
Found in field of tall grass and mustard. There were probably 5-10 of these flies on surrounding grass that I could see.
I think it is a type of longhorn beetle.It could be a Palo Verde root borer beetle.
