This species is considered to be the "holy grail" of dragonfly finds in North Texas. I am not entirely sure why, other than that it is the apex predator when it comes to dragonflies. It feeds on others of its kind along with anything else it can catch which apparently includes small birds such as hummingbirds. It is the largest of the clubtail dragonflies. A friend & I stumbled upon this one by accident while looking for interesting things to photograph on a hot summer day.
Flying around some sumac bushes between the parking lot of a medical office and the maintained Medipark grasses.
