I set a goal for myself in 2019 to have photographed 100 species of birds. I not only succeeded at this goal but exceeded it on October 30th 2019.

Old school rules? No one used to have pictures unless they were super rich because cameras that good were rare and expensive.

The last part of your post got my attention. I've been birding for about 25 years and many times I've birded the same spot on back to back days. Occasionally the lists are similar but most of the time only about a quarter of the birds are the same. There are lots of factors that influence which species are on the list. Maybe the birder before you is good at pishing and you don't pish. You're going to see far fewer skulky birds that respond to pishing than the other birder. Maybe they're great at earbirding and the next birder doesn't know a lot of calls and songs. You are making a lot of assumptions on very limited information.
