Don't Overlook the Empty Log

In thinking about the upcoming City Nature Challenge, I was reminded today when out iNatting in the city, the importance of not overlooking the tree trunks used for landscaping.

They may look dead and uninteresting but a closer look can yield some interesting observations. My attention was first drawn to the Dianella revoluta seedling but a glance to the side revealed that I was being watched by a well hidden Eulamprus quoyii (eastern water skink).

Further exploration revealed some quite busy ants and patches of Campylopus introflexus (Heath Star-moss) that was hanging on despite the late summer heatwave we were having.

It pays to follow the ABC of iNatting - Always Be Curious and Photograph Everything
