Note, covered in ice - frozen. Cap greyish-brown, paler at margin. 22 cm across. Gills decurrent, subdistant, broad, cream coloured. Stipe 9 cm long, 4 cm thick, laterally attached - multiples coming out of one spot on the log. Flesh thin at margin, thick at stipe, very rubbery. Stipe rubbery as well, more white along outside of stipe. Slight anise smell.

Long black beak with hooked tip reminds me of a cormorant, but the long bulging crest reminds me of a merganser, Remains offshore in rough weather.
