We've heard one of these brutes in the woods of Oregon, but this is the first one we've gotten eyes on. Found it in a bare oak behind the old adobe house/poolhall in the Harshaw ghost town, then followed it deeper into the small trees on the nearby hillside where we took these pictures. Distinguished from the Ferruginous type mainly by the spotted vice streaked head and by range.

Several massive Arizona Sycamores grow near the Harshaw ghost town cemetery, and the entire upper Harshaw Creek valley is full of magnificent specimens of these beautiful trees. None had budded out on this date here in the 4,700'-4,800' elevation range, but trees at lower elevations near the town of Patagonia were already leafing out.
