Two similar spherical galls found on underside of white oak (section) leaf (Photo 2), with diameters of 5- to 5.5- mm. One gall located on midrib (Photo 1), the other on the central vein of lobe near the margin (Photo 2, top view of leaf). An exit hole from the midrib gall is visible in Photo 3. Both of these galls had two chambers, one empty and one with a wasp (Photo 4). The developing wasp could move some of its legs and antennae but was otherwise immobile. The outstretched body length was about 3 mm and each antennae was about 2 mm long.

Found on the underside of a small red oak (section) leaf along the midrib. Each gall is shaped like a plump half-moon, or as my gastronomic eye sees it an empanada (nom nom, photo #1). Each ranges in length from 6-8 mm; in photo #2, two galls near the petiole appear to be adjoined. In photo #3, another pair lie on opposite sides of the midrib. The final photo (#4) shows the topside of the leaf with the base of each gall poking through, or is this scarring?

Lots of dried (sub)circular galls of various sizes (max diameter 5 mm; Photo 2). I opened one of the galls and found three larvae ranging in length from 2-3 mm inside (e.g. Photo 1). Host plant is in the "red oak" group, perhaps Q. rubra. Photo 3 is top side of leaf, photo 4 is underside.
