Today I found three cocoons of cecropias! I plan on rearing them to determine success and/or parasitism. Past rearings indicate that there are about 50-50 odds of getting moths or tachinid flies.

I saw about two dozen painted ladies today. Recently I have seen the most painted ladies I can recall. They all appear to be fresh and bright colored. Also, I have received similar reports from the Duluth, Minnesota area. I hope someone is tracking this event!

I saw about a dozen painted ladies today. Also, I have received several reports of large numbers of painted ladies in northeast Minnesota. Normally they are not common in this area. We are experiencing a cyclic or migratory event which is not common in this area. The butterflies I saw were very bright colored and appeared to be freshly eclosed.
