This species isn’t uncommon in this region but I was impressed to see how numerous it was in the undergrowth of the woods at Meadowbrook Marsh preserve.

This was one of the largest examples I'd seen, with the whole complex stretching 6 feet vertically. Growing on the massive trunk of a dying weeping willow tree.

Just noting the fact that there are still hundreds of Large Milkweed Bugs on the Common Milkweeds here on Oct. 9, including many wingless young individuals. Have to wonder if they’ll mature in time to migrate before freezing weather sets in.

On this day I saw just this one Spot-winged Pigeon; at least 100 Picazuro Pigeons were in the same general area. This bird was off by itself, not associating with the Picazuros.
