On June 18 the great horned owl showed up again and the grackles put up a huge racket and harassed her away. But on June 27, she was there and the grackles were not alarmed. she was allowed to go thru her grooming routine before taking a nap. However I think the sun reflected off the pond bothered her so she moved on by 8:30 AM

Mama feeding chick. The grackles make me laugh. They have personality as will be shown in the next pics. They seem so fierce but let the dove and pigeon push them around.

I take almost daily walks and this pair decided to lay their eggs in the dirt by the labyrinth in the church field. In the progression of time there was 4 eggs layed and I disturbed them by taking pictures, at which they displayed their broken wing tactics and loud cries.

Grackle eating raccoons. The grackles led me to them. I couldn't see them at first, but I saw the tree moving, then I realized there were 2 and they were playing with each other. They didn't pay attention to me until I moved in a little closer and had a better view of them and they of me. RACCOONS! Two of them. I think they've made a home in the cattails on the edge of the pond.

There are a couple sets of female mallards with ducklings being raised in the area. This one has a younger set and is on her own with them. The last picture is an older set of which the parents, both, have recently left them, or they wandered out together on their own.

What a ruckus this morning about 5:30 AM!! The great tailed grackles were making a huge noise chattering and flying over this tree. I went to investigate, knowing they only do that when there is an enemy around, and look who I saw up there, a raccoon!!! It was having grackle for breakfast. I don't know if it was eggs or chick but it was feasting.

No wonder the birds were so upset.
I know the pics aren't very good and hard to see it. My camera doesn't do well in low light.

Hard for me to tell due to the angle, but I believe that's what it is. It was not more than a yard above me, as I sat under the juniper.
