Growing in large clusters in an area that burned a couple of years ago. Has a slight odor that is hard to describe - maybe lemony?

Curled up against the house by the front steps. Sleeping? 3-4” long as presenting. Occasionally moves (like shivering). Sun is starting to shine on him, he just turned around and I could see his tail. Lodgepole pine cone in the photo. UPDATE: the animal has died after a few hours.

Evidence of raptor kill. I have no idea what the killed animal was. Do you have any idea? The indoor photo is the end of the tail- it is the largest fur chunk in the photos; the bone inside is 3cm long. All the fur is silky black with white tips.

Photo taken with a higher-end point and shoot camera that is approx 3 years old. I cropped in hard.
Bird has been in the area for a week or more. Cry sounds like a juvenile goshawk. There is another similar looking bird here as well - they cry back and forth. Bird body exclusive of the tail is approx 20”- bird had spent some time on the ground about 30’ from me and later I spotted a yardstick from my location for size. I only had my phone then and picture is fuzzy.

And robin. At my birdbath, about 3’ off the ground. It’s been very dry, and we’re getting more birds and more species of birds than ever before. I put out an improvised birdbath, and it’s in constant use, too. I don’t feed the birds at all. Just provide water to birds (and squirrels, flies and bees/wasps. )

Found dead, pretty dry, a couple maggots where it touched the ground. What looks like deep punctures in body, no other obvious injuries
