My passion for wildlife is lifelong but I became Citizen Scientist more than decade ago when I began recording frogs for the Melbourne Water Frog Census. When I retired, my friends in Frogwatch said : "While you are out there recording frogs, you may as well count the birds at the same time". So I joined Birdlife Australia and started seasonal counts of the birds around my local waterways. I took my camera out with me to photograph them to confirm ID's later. Over the years my bird photos began piling up on my computer. Then I was introduced to Melbourne Museum's Ken Walker and Bowerbird and it gave me a perfect way to collate my images into projects matching my count sites and favourite places. The closure of Bowerbird is incredibly painful and I am so grateful to iNaturalist for finding a home for our images. The ability of wildlife to inhabit out cities is a constant inspiration. In recording their resilience in my corner of Melbourne, Australia, I hope I am helping to protect their habitat for generations to come.
