I'm a lifelong naturalist living in the Annapolis Royal area of Nova Scotia. I'm originally from eastern Ontario, but now live on 2+ acres of mostly wooded land alongside Round Hill Brook. I came here about 11 years ago, buying a very sadly neglected pre-1860s house. I've left most of the property in its natural state as found other than removing invasive non-native species.
There's been some good regeneration happening after the invasives were removed. Fortunately, the property was mostly ignored by its former occupants for at least the past 70 years, so there are many interesting things happening here. I've been photographing the flora and fauna as I find time between repair projects on the houe. One of my projects since moving here has been to photograph moths at night. This is a continuation of a project at the farm in Osgoode, Ontario where I lived for over 30 years. I made a similar project of documenting the flora and fauna on that land. My late husband, Don, and I hiked and canoed throughout much of eastern Ontario from before 2000 until his death in 2008. Don kept field notes and I photographed almost all of our sightings. As I find time, I'll be entering those field notes and photos to my observations on iNaturalist. There are a few thousand and I haven't made much headway on that, but perhaps I will someday.

Aside from natural history, my interests include photography, writing, hiking, canoeing, gardening, art, music, and rescuing this old house from almost-certain ruin. My natural history photos have appeared in many publications. For several winters, I stayed in the Sky Islands region of southeast Arizona - another terrific area for natural history observation. I play (mostly) celtic music on tenor guitar, banjo, bouzouki, and a bit of fiddle, with friends here in Annapolis and down in Arizona.
