I have a strong interest in evolutionary history, the ways taxa have diversified and persisted across time, and the modern-day relationships and patterns that resulted from that history. Many of my favourite groups are clades whose stories I've felt are less-often told or celebrated than their sister clades'. My "Favorites" list is a large set of high-level groups I'm interested in and have some affection for.

I'm also interested in urban ecology, in species that have come to live alongside human habitats in consistent and persistent ways, and in ways of improving the biodiversity and ecological resilience of areas of permanent human habitation.

I'm not a biologist or ecologist by trade; I work as a game designer and a writer, but biology has been a long-standing interest. I'm always happy to learn cues and markers for identifying species!

I am a beginner scuba diver, and I hope to continue making more underwater observations in the future. I also own a SWIFT SW380B Binocular Compound Microscope, and am just beginning to play with microscopy. I make most of my observations with an Olympus TG-6 (including the underwater ones) and a Nikon P900.

I'm also a bit of a cultivator. I maintain a few terraria of isopods and springtails, some planted freshwater fish and shrimp tanks, two cats, and a variety of plants that I am trying to learn to grow indoors, including some lycophytes and horsetails. If you have any tips for cultivating lycophytes or horsetails in pots, please reach out - it's a real struggle!
