I am a biology professor at Amherst College, studying the ecology and evolutionary biology of infectious diseases. We use a plant-fungus interaction as the model system, specifically where fungi in the genus Microbotryum replace the pollen of affected flowers with their own spores, which are then moved among plants by the normal insect pollinators.
