I am a retired conservationist/environmentalist. I am also a retired volunteer with Lakeside Nature Center. Volunteering in wildlife rehabilitation is like being an EMT for wildlife. Many animals received in rehab are critically injured or dying. I had the opportunity to work with phenomenal naturalists and Veterinarians. It was so rewarding to see (some) animals go from near death to pre-release and released status. Pretty amazing!! At the same time, it was like a front row seat to the carnage of man's war on nature, intentional or not: our cars, pets, buildings and our industries have an impact. I specialized in working with songbirds, hawks and owls. I'm excited to be starting a new journey as a volunteer with Burroughs Audubon and Missouri River Bird Observatory - the adventure continues!!
