In an epic 12,000-mile journey south, the Pacific gray whale (Eschrichtius robustus) flees the chilling winter waters of the Artic to the warm and fertile bays of Baja California. Along the way, the whales must endure the fatigue of travel, foraging for amphipods, and the risk of predation.
