Citizen science making a difference for California.

The term “citizen science” has become increasingly popular among the public and the research community. Citizen science is any program in which nonscientists, mostly volunteers, are recruited and trained to participate in a scientific study.

Sudden oak disease detected in Del Norte County.

California officials have confirmed that the pathogen that causes sudden oak death (SOD) has been detected in Del Norte County.

The pathogen is a water mold that can kill oaks and tanoaks, threaten wildlife habitat and cause fire risk.

What's more iconic than California's golden hills and dales dotted with the state's native oak trees?
California's landscape has some of the most diverse plants and flora on this planet and it needs our help now. Native oaks are a vital important component of the vegetation of California and they grow in a wide variety of habitats that helps provide a distinctive character to our entire state.
