The City of Palo Alto is storing wood chips at this site for a major landscaping project across the road; storage here will likely be for around 6 months. There are some concerns about how the wood chips (all are from within City projects within the city limits, species of source trees is not known) will positively or negatively impact the area.

Wood chips have been place in a layer about 1 - 2 feet thick over about two thirds of the site. When the chips are removed the bottom 6 inches (approximately) will be left behind as a soil amendment aiding open space in restoration efforts.

We are interested in having observations in the site of everything from ants to vultures, grasses to trees and any activities or changes that folks see.

The site is near the Byxbee Park parking lot (2375 Embarcadero Road) roughly across the street from the landfill entrance. The site is bordered on one side by Embarcadero Road, on the opposite side by the Marsh Front Trail and extends from the cable gate near the park entrance to about the third utility pole from the gate along Embarcadero Road. menos ↑
