The Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre (AC CDC) and Fundy National Park have worked together on a number of biodiversity and conservation focused projects over the years, and it only made sense to come together again for the first ever Fundy National Park BioBlitz.
The observations made by park visitors during the BioBlitz have the potential to be incorporated into databases that document local, regional and global biodiversity. In support of the Fundy National Park BioBlitz, the AC CDC will contribute their expertise to species identifications during field surveys as well as the verification of observations of the biodiversity of Fundy National Park made by park visitors during this 24 hr snapshot.

The Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre (AC CDC) and Fundy National Park have worked together on a number of biodiversity and conservation focused projects over the years, and it only made sense to come together again for the first ever Fundy National Park BioBlitz.
The observations made by park visitors during the BioBlitz have the potential to be incorporated into databases that document local, regional and global biodiversity. In support of the Fundy National Park BioBlitz, the AC CDC will contribute their expertise to species identifications during field surveys as well as the verification of observations of the biodiversity of Fundy National Park made by park visitors during this 24 hr snapshot.
As an organization, the AC CDC compiles and provides objective data about biological diversity in Atlantic Canada, and undertakes fieldwork to further knowledge of the distribution and status of species and ecological communities of conservation concern. All of the AC CDC’s efforts are in support of conservation-related decision making, research and education.
The AC CDC’s expertise and data represent the single most comprehensive and current source of information about Atlantic Canada's biodiversity. It includes more than 1.25 million terrestrial records, ranging from those of naturalists in the early 1800s to information derived by the precisely GPS-documented fieldwork undertaken today.
Fundy National Park is well represented in the AC CDC database, with 7003 records of 1345 unique taxa. These records are grouped into 3904 Element Occurrences, or spatial clusters of observations. Records span all higher taxonomic groups including amphibians, birds, freshwater fish, mammals, reptiles, insects, vascular plants, nonvascular plants and lichens.
The database contains 780 records of 219 taxa of conservation concern: 18 nationally-protected taxa (COSEWIC - Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada), 16 provincially-protected taxa (New Brunswick Species at Risk Act) and 215 taxa considered Critically Imperiled, Imperiled or Vulnerable (AC CDC Subnational Rarity Ranks of S3 or lower). Species of high conservation concern observed in the Park include Red Knot (Bécasseau maubèche de la sous-espèce rufa, Calidris canutus rufa, Endangered – COSEWIC), Little Brown Myotis (Petite chauve-souris brune, Myotis lucifugus; Endangered in Canada and NB), Bald Eagle (Pygargue à tête blanche, Peltigera hydrothyria; Endangered in NB), Cougar (1949-1997; Puma concolor pop. 1; Endangered in NB), Canadian Lynx (Lynx du Canada, Lynx canadensis; Endangered in NB) and 22 plants or lichens considered Critically Imperiled in New Brunswick including Salted Shell Lichen (Coccocarpe du palmier, Coccocarpia palmicola) and Eastern Waterfan (Peltigère éventail-d’eau, Peltigera hydrothyria).
The earliest Fundy record in the database is a 1948 collection housed in the University of New Brunswick’s Connell Memorial Herbarium of Scots Lovage (Livèche d'Écosse, Ligusticum scoticum) by A.R.A. Taylor at Point Wolfe, where the plant still persists today. More recent data sources represented in the AC CDC database include the Fundy National Park digital database, AC CDC field work, eBird, Connell Herbarium Specimens and the Maritimes Butterfly Atlas.

Le Centre de données sur la conservation du Canada atlantique et le BioBlitz 2015 du parc national Fundy
Le Centre de données sur la conservation du Canada atlantique (CDC CA) et le parc national Fundy ont travaillé conjointement sur de nombreux projets de biodiversité et de conservation au cours des années. Il était donc naturel de travailler ensemble pour le premier BioBlitz du parc.
Les observations faites par les visiteurs du parc au courant du BioBlitz aideront à enrichir les bases de données sur la biodiversité locale, régionale et mondiale. Le CDC CA y participera en aidant à identifier les espèces durant les travaux sur le terrain et en vérifiant les observations de la biodiversité que feront les participants au cours des 24 heures du BioBlitz 2015.
Le CDC CA compile et rend accessibles des données sur la diversité biologique au Canada atlantique. De plus, le Centre entreprend des travaux sur le terrain afin de mieux connaître la distribution et l’état d’espèces menacées. Le CDC CA vise à faciliter la prise de décisions, la recherche et l’éducation dans le domaine de la conservation.
La base du CDC CA est la source la plus complète et à jour concernant la biodiversité au Canada atlantique. Elle comprend plus de 1.25 million de fiches terrestres, y compris les observations de naturalistes des années 1800 et les renseignements plus précis obtenus grâce à la technologie de nos jours.
Le parc national Fundy occupe une place importante dans la base du CDC CA : 7,003 fiches sur 1,345 taxa uniques. Ces fiches sont regroupées par occurrence d’élément, c’est-à-dire par grappe géographique. On y trouve des observations d’organismes de tous les groupes taxonomiques supérieurs dont les amphibiens, les oiseaux, les poissons d’eau douce, les mammifères, les reptiles, les insectes, les plantes vasculaires et avasculaires, et les lichens.
La base de données contient 780 fiches sur 219 taxa menacés : 18 taxa au Canada (COSEPAC – Comité sur la situation des espèces en péril au Canada), 16 taxa au Nouveau-Brunswick (Loi sur les espèces en péril du Nouveau-Brunswick), et 215 espèces gravement en péril, en péril et vulnérables (rang S3 ou inférieur selon le CDC CA). On retrouve dans le parc les espèces menacées suivantes : le bécasseau maubèche de la sous-espèce rufa (Calidris canutus rufa, menacé - COSEPAC), la petite chauve-souris brune (Myotis lucifugus, menacée au Canada et au N.-B.), le pygargue à tête blanche (Peltigera hydrothyria, menacé au N.-B.), le cougar (de 1949 à 1997; Puma concolor pop. 1, menacé au N.-B.), le lynx du Canada (Lynx canadensis, menacé au N.-B.), et 22 plantes et lichens qui sont gravement en péril dans la province (la coccocarpe du palmier, Coccocarpia palmicola, et la peltigère éventail-d’eau, Peltigera hydrothyria).
La première fiche au sujet d’une espèce observée dans le parc Fundy date de 1948. A.R.A. Taylor a découvert de la livèche d’Écosse (Ligusticum scoticum) au Point Wolfe, lieu où cette plante pousse toujours. La collection se trouve au Connell Memorial Herbarium de l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick. La base du CDC CA contient également des données récentes provenant de la base informatisée du parc Fundy, des travaux sur le terrain du CDC CA, de l’application eBird, des collections du Connell Memorial Herbarium et de l’Atlas des papillons des Maritimes.
