There is something about the iridescent colors displayed by certain animals that give me the feeling of profound amazement. Some of the most breathe-taking species are found in the insect world... and what a colorful world I ventured into last week along the Lehigh River near Thornhurst. The hot weather was not only perfect for a late morning hike, but also for ebony jewelwing damselflies to congregate over a placid streamside pool. The beautiful insects had begun their courtship display, which kept me mesmerized for nearly one hour.
