The Anti-Pollinators

Since I’m spending more time around a patch of flowering plants, to find observations for https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/california-pollination-project, I’m finding the anti-pollinators too, insects large and small that prey on other insects. Check this out:

I'm inspired and going out to look for the ambush bug today (before the buckwheat is all dried up after the heatwave coming our way).

Also be on the look-out for these flies, https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/57854510. They love to eat Honey Bees.

Well, I tried and perhaps I need a magnifying glass :), but no luck on the ambush bug. I did add observations to the project, though I am most excited about this very handsome long-horned I spotted this morning: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/58521193

Even though the car temp suggested 77 degrees, it felt much warmer in the sun and the mosquitos were out in force, so glad to be back home in the cool house. Stay safe my fellow wild women.

What a lovely beetle!! Susan, who has been combing through the Santa Monica Mountains for close to a decade, said that she is finding a lot less Ambush Bugs in the past couple of years...
