New expansion of El Silencio! - Nueva expansión de El Silencio!

We are very happy to announce that our campaign with This Is My Earth was a success (https://this-is-my-earth.org/2019-success-magdalena-valley-colombia/)! By the end of 2019 we raised enough money to buy and safeguard very important patches of forest in a neighboring farm (see map above). Blue-billed curassow, brown spider monkeys, jaguars and these greater grison (https://youtu.be/5SROL-JLtnA) have been seen in these forest patches. We will make sure the patches become well connected with the forests of El Silencio so that the animals can travel safely to and from those patches without exposing themselves in the deforested areas. By preserving the forest we also preserve plant, reptile, amphibian, fungi and invertebrate biodiversity that is fundamental for the ecosystems, as well as prevent CO2 emissions, soil degradation and drying. With support of our partner World Land Trust, we will continue to raise funds to save and restore forests around our reserve (https://www.worldlandtrust.org/tabs/el-silencio/).

New patreon campaign and continuing TiME land purchase campaign

CONTINUING CAMPAIGN TO ENLARGE OUR RESERVE

Together with This Is My Earth we are running a campaign to raise funds to purchase 60 ha of remaining forest in the Barbacoas area. You can vote for our project here: https://this-is-my-earth.org/project/fundacion-biodiversa-colombia/.

Please consider voting! For $15 dollars you save about 200 sq meters of forest which holds the equivalent of 1 years worth of a car's carbon emissions.

For a measly 1 USD your votes counts in the sense that it affects the distribution of all funds across the projects. If you cannot pay (e.g. don't have a credit card) please still vote and let us know: send us a iNaturalist message with your email address. We have sponsors willing to sponsor your vote so that it counts!

BECOME A FRIEND OF EL SILENCIO

On patreon we have a great overview of our reserve and it gives you the possibility to support us too! https://www.patreon.com/friendsofelsilencio. This money helps us maintain the reserve and we keep you up to date about developments in the reserve!

500 ha. expansion of El Silencio Nature Reserve!

Amazing News: we are the new partners of World Land Trust in Colombia to expand our El Silencio natural reserve in 482 ha of tropical moist forest of the Middle Magdalena Valley, with the joint support from IUCN NL and Tennis clothes company. This is certainly the most important achievement and support we have reached in the history of the foundation. Fernando Arbeláez just attended to our first WLT partner meeting in Thetford, UK, and exchanged experiences with other partners who carry out an amazing conservation work around the world. We couldn't be prouder :)
