De Freina, Joseph J, 2016 Über afrotropische Syntomini und Asinusca WALLENGREN, 1862 ge. Rev. im Besonderen (Lepidoptera: Erebidae, Arctiinae, Syntomini). Entomologische Zeitschrift 126(3), 155-159
Abstract. Asinusca WALLENGREN, 1862 stat. rev., monospecific, is briefly revised and re-evaluated. A diagnosis is provided, using characters of external and internal morphology. Taxonomy and nomenclature are clearly pointed out, possible relationships are discussed. The type species Asinusca atricornis WALLENGREN, 1863 comb. rev., is redescribed, and transferred from Amata FABRICIUS, 1807 (type species Zygaena passalis FABRICIUS, 1775). Compared to this genus, noticeable traits particularly in male genital structure and antennae, illustrated here for the first time, are characteristic and extremely different. They justify restitution of the original genus combination. Females, Immature stages and life history of A atricornis are unknown. No detailed habitat information is available, but locality information shows that it inhabits colline to montane zones. The species is currently known from savanna areas in northern South Africa and parts of Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
@wynand_uys Taxon swap done :-) It may take a little while for the changes to show while the obs are being reindexed.
