5/20-5/21 BioBlitz Wrap Up

Thank you to all that came out and participated in the 2016 Fort Caroline BioBlitz this past weekend! The event allowed us to reach out to over 100 elementary students from Joseph Finnegan Elementary on Friday, May 20th. The kids were able to get a close up look and learn to identify insects of all shapes, sizes and habitats. We had an incredible volunteer turn out, with 190 general assistance and public participants showing up. The event would not have been possible without their enthusiasm and time!
With the help of these dedicated volunteers, we were able to obtain 305 observations in iNaturalist. These observations are now being identified to get a better understanding of what was found over the weekend. Out of the observations that have currently been reviewed, 52 species of insect have been identified. These observations will give us an idea of what life in the park is currently looking like and will be added to the National Park Service species list for future reference. We are looking forward to having similar events in the future!
