Along edge of wetland, near trails; abundant. Lowest bract shorter than double it’s spike. Perigynia broadest around middle, beak very short, pale green. Spikes 5-7, with >10 perigynia per spike. Spikes spread out along inflorescence, with lowest spikes >1.5cm apart and total inflorescence >7cm.

Mostly vegetative clumps. In saturated ground. Fertile culms reaching maturity. Spikes longer than that of other similar species nearby. Perigynia inflated, pistillate scales acuminate and scabrous at tip. Culm smooth below inflorescence. Staminate scale smooth on edges, except scabrous at tip.
