Pulled this waterlogged little bat out of pool yesterday morning. It had fallen in and had managed to climb to the edge. I placed it in a sheltered group of boulders to dry out and it was gone by dusk.

For the second consecutive year we have these beautiful glow worms visiting our yard. We find them on small boulders underneath our oak trees.

Saw a glow on a boulder under an oak tree and found this beautiful creature. I grew up with lightning bugs in NJ but have never seen one of these glowworms. There was a second nearby in the grass.

Five in all at various points around Scorpion Ranch on Santa Cruz; three were patrolling high-traffic picnic areas with little fear of humans; a pair was along the Cavern Loop trail about a quarter mile above the campground.
