Growing on a hillside of yerba santa, on a property that burned a few years ago. No large trees around… downhill from them are some oaks that are short and bushy (regrowth from the burn). These specimen were found directly under the yerba santa after several heavy rains. Iron rich soil, chaparral surroundings.
