This is one of the first hummingbirds of the season for the feeder. This pretty little green hummingbird has a white band around its neck and a bright purple flash on the under side of the neck.

I was excited to find these little guys at the feeder yesterday. These are duplicates of the larger female house finches. They are about half the size of the house finch females and have a golden tone to their feathers rather than just the brown of the house finch females. About 10 of them appeared yesterday at the feeder and they are very hungry. I am disappointed that I can't get better images. I have a ton from the feeder, but it is too dark to see the markings very well.

This is a male house finch. They are more difficult to capture on film while at the feeder. The males (there are 4-6 of them this week) have red heads and are slightly smaller than the females.

Not sure if it shows very well, but this humming bird has a yellow/golden tone to the back feathers. It was more of a yellow/black than green as I have seen on others the last few days. This little guy does not have a red or purple blush to the throat feathers.

This woodpecker is so funny. He will come and hang from the feeder to be able to partake in the seeds. This is a black and white woodpecker with a red spot at the back of his head. He is probably about the size of a robin or just a little smaller. I would put him in a medium sized bird category. Included the shadowy profile shot for a perspective on the beak shape.

A large group of this bird is a frequent visitor to the feeder. He is the one I meant to get the other day instead of the black capped chickadee. He is a tiny bird with a black striped face and a happy little song.

This is my first sighting of the year for this small bird. It is brown with white speckles. It is larger than a chickadee and smaller than a jay. My first thought this morning was a female house finch, but I wasn't sure and the images online make it look more petite than this bird.

This guy was an early morning visitor. The front of the animal was red and back half was still in the dark grey coloration I am thinking it might be shedding. At first when I saw it I thought it was a coyote because of the coloration on the back half which is all I could see. Then after watching it for a bit, I saw it do a 'rodent' pounce and the gate was more specific to foxes.

This small bird is almost entirely dark grey/black on the back with a reddish brown patch across the wing shoulders. It has a grey belly and yellow beak. They showed up in the last few days to the driveway and lawn areas. They are being more brave today and coming to the feeder as we got about a foot of snow. They are quite a bit bigger than the chickadees and have been bullying them at the feeder.

This guy visits my deck every day. He has been trying to climb the side of the house to get to the bird feeder with is just out of his reach! He is nesting in the woodpile near the deck. He is very dark almost black with no traces of lighter brown. He does have his winter coat still. I saw some of this type of squirrel during the snowy period running from back and forth between lodgepoles and sometimes jumping branches to get through the forest without going down to the snow.
