Diario del proyecto Inter-Island Bioblitz 2022

07 de diciembre de 2022

Thanks everyone for making the first inter-island bioblitz such a success!

Congrats to all who took part and a special thanks to those who are still working away with the IDs...

At the time of writing, we have 4345 observations from 118 observers, representing 1176 different species across the three countries - and the totals are still rising....

You can still upload your observations over the coming days, once they were made within the 24hrs.

If you were new to iNaturalist, hopefully you will continue to use it to document biodiversity beyond the Bioblitz - although we also hope that this will not be the last inter-island event: watch this space!

In the meantime, you can follow us on facebook & instagram for updates and highlights :)

Until next time...

Day 2!

Good morning Bioblitzers!

We've passed 2,000 observations and 700 species, which is fantastic!

Well done to everyone who ventured out last night to capture some of the nocturnal species!

Thanks also to those helping to ID the observations - your hard work is hugely appreciated too.

Still a couple of hours left, so keep up the amazing work...

A GREAT START & A FEW REMINDERS!

Hello all!

Bioblitz 2022 has got off to an amazing start in all 3 countries: 87 species from 143 observations already!

A quick reminder to try and ID your observations to at least a basic level when you upload them - i.e. plant, animal, insect etc - even if you are not sure of the species. This ensures the right experts find the observation quickly and can help ID.

If you capture photos of obviously ornamental plants or pet animals, you can uncheck the "organism is wild" box when uploading - these are still valid observations but it is good to distinguish them from wild organisms.

Those of you with some expertise and knowledge in a particular area are encouraged to help ID other people's observations, too! It is truly a team effort!

Looking forward to seeing what the next 22-23 hours will bring!

Amy

Inter-island Bioblitz 2022: It's TODAY!

Hello Bioblitzers!

Welcome to all the new members of this project!

At noon today, you can begin taking photos of any and all living things in and around your backyard - whether you are in T&T, Barbados or Jamaica!

A few tips for those new to Bioblitz & INaturalist:

1) You must TAKE the photos between 12 Sat - 12 Sun, but you can upload them afterwards if that is easier - they will still add to the project
2) If you are using a digital camera to take your photos, check that your time & date settings are correct on your camera, as this can prevent them uploading to the project correctly
3) It is also a good idea to check that your iNaturalist account settings are in the correct time zone too, for the same reason. If you find your photos are not showing up in the project, you can check this.
4) If you upload more than one photo of the same organism (i.e. different angles), make sure you "combine" the photos into one observation.
5) There is no need to manually add observations to the project once you are a member, this should happen automatically.
6) Remember you can use either the phone app OR the web browser version of iNaturalist to interact with the project
7) Stay safe - some plants and animals can sting, bite or cause irritation. There is no need to touch or handle any organism for Bioblitz - all you need is a photo.
8) Most importantly, have fun! We can't wait to see what we all find this weekend!!!

If you do have a technical issue or any other question during the weekend, you can message (Amy Deacon) on here, or email ttbioblitz@gmail.com

Good luck!

1 week to go - spread the word!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for joining the 2022 Inter-Island Bioblitz project!

Now that we are just over one week away, it would be fantastic if you could spread the word among your
friends, family, colleagues who might like to take part, by introducing them to iNaturalist and showing them how to join the project! The aim is to get as many people taking part as possible in all three countries!

Once they have joined this project, any photos they upload from noon-noon of 3-4 Dec* should automatically add themselves to the inter-island bioblitz species totals. Anyone who will be in Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados or Jamaica on that weekend is invited to take part.

Look out for more updates here soon & in the meantime you can also follow us on social media: https://linktr.ee/ttbioblitz. If you have any queries, you can email us at ttbioblitz@gmail.com

More soon....

Amy

*photos taken during the 24hrs but uploaded afterwards should still add to the project, so if you can't upload until after the weekend that is fine too.
