After almost 6 years I hit 2,000 observations! I cant believe I made it this much, but the adventures and memories I made along the way have been so worth the time and energy to photograph and upload all these amazing species. To commemorate this milestone, I want to dedicate this observation for this moth. I found this moth after a long day and I felt compassion for it. I was with my partner and I was just fascinated on how it got itself tucked by a window stilt. I felt sorry for the little moth and I want it too know that their life was more than death. It will forever live on in my heart and in this amazing database. My wish would be to identify it to species level so that it may get the proper commemoration it deserves. Thank you moth for living your life and being what you are. It’s an honor to represent you the 2,000th observation.

To transition into 2023 I will share my most important observation of the last year. While walking in campus I stumbled upon this nuthatch. It was injured. And I felt so bad for it and tried to hold it and see what was wrong. It seemed like its wing has been broken and it has had internal damage. I had class in a few minutes and I knew I couldn’t help it. I went to class and when I came back it was cold. I felt a wave of sadness but I knew this was the reality of nature. I said my farewells and honored the life it had. Such an amazing specimen of bird and I feel lucky to have had been able to have contact with it before its eventual death. This bird is a symbolism that life is short and each year that I’m able to live is a blessing. I hope that this year will be one of hope and life. Cheers to another year of inat, a constant in my life that helps me appreciate the world around us, even when the dark clouds are clouding my vision. Thank you white-breasted nuthatch. Your life was more than you will ever imagine. Let your legacy forever live on.

Perfection. I never thought when I first began inat that I would ever hit this milestone. I mean 1000 species? Not even 12 year old me knew half of that. My first observation was a house sparrow in Israel’s airport. And ever since I’ve collected and observed hundreds of insects, mammals, and plants. Each species holds meaning. Each species is important. No matter what it was or how it looked like. Every species has its purpose and that’s why nature is perfect. From this tiny leafhopper to a Snowy Throated Kingbird. I am so happy that after 5 years of traveling and constantly searching for organisms in my everyday life. To being able to observe a species that only I have on this app (Frigga Kessleri) and the only sighting in a whole country is absurd to me. Inaturalist has changed my life and I couldn’t be more joyous to be able to post my 1000 species. I know this is just the beginning. I’m almost 18 and I cant wait until I grow older and update my life list. My all time goal is 10,000 species. I’ll try my all to achieve it. This species means a lot to me. I found it with my partner @maritzam13 and it matches so much with many aspects of my life. I’m grateful for Mother Nature and the opportunity for me to continue my passion. Thank you everybody for being a part of this journey. I’ll continue as long as I live.

Darkling beetle found in the beach of Oahu. Since the 1990s the Hawaii invasive species website has confirmed its existence in the island. Their are many observations of them but most are just the genus, because no one has tried to find the specific species that was hiding the whole time. But with some research and help from journals and images/info from biologists who have found this beetle in the past. Have given it this scientific name. I believe the others observations of people with the same beetle fall under this species, since it’s located in the same region in a covered island and have same exact features and coloring unlike other darkling beetles around the genus. Here is the link if anyone is wondering about the species https://www.invasive.org/browse/subthumb.cfm?sub=80457&fam=481

There is also a few more pockets of information for this relatively obscure insect. Now I hope a curator of some sort can create the species for it in inat so others can use it in the future. Here is another site showing the location of it in Oahu and some other extra info https://www.ipmimages.org/browse/detail.cfm?imgnum=5550529

I hope this can get some attention cause the information was out here all along we just need to add it to Inaturalist . Thanks for reading
