I assume this is the South African mantis but have never seen one that looks like this.

Noticed a NZ female praying mantis mating with three males. Walked past 10 mins later and she'd caught a butterfly and was eating it. Nice multitasking!!

Obs for the right ootheca (egg mass). The left one looks like a South African ootheca (Miomantis caffra)? Both on the underside of a magnolia leaf.

Found by @samtheanimalman on the very top of a rock tor at about 1600m asl.

NZ Mantis at 1600 metres!!!

At 1,500 odd metres a.s.l. with @possumsend and @samtheanimalman

There are lots of gum emperor moth pupae, and old pupal cases, in this lone eucalyptus tree and the adjacent willow and silver birch trees.
