The crows were angrily calling around their nest site all morning so I investigated and discovered this Fisher raiding the nest! Larger than house cat, broad face, black tail contrasting with brown body. Poor photos through binos.

Young fishers. There were three: two more reddish and one brownish black. Last photo shows most clearly the shape of the head. They seemed to like piling on top of each other, as in the "ball of fishers" in the third photo.

Discovered stuck in an open foundation area (a troublesome spot where cats and other animals routinely get stuck- it’s an excavated area connected to a local school. I’m guessing it may be a flood zone design feature but I’m not sure)

This individual was very exciting to see. I’ve only ever observed Fishers (assuming that’s what this is?) on trail cams and so sparingly when I’m lucky enough to spot one crossing from a wood line.

I heard the crows (and a single Blue Jay) going nuts over something and thought they were mobbing an owl. Instead I found them screaming at a fisher working its way through the trees! I got a better look than this photo shows - it was uniformly dark, with none of the light brown or orange of an American Marten.

From a trail camera I found in a swamp in January 2019. All photos were from first half of 2013. Presumably a bear had ripped it down and tossed it off in the brush where it sat for nearly 6 years. Miraculously, the memory card was still good and there were some great photos on it!

A Fisher snatching the egg of a Canada Goose nest. This is the last of 3 eggs that I observed him/her taking. The geese were in the pond nearby and obviously frightened and fretting as the nest they had built on an old Beaver lodge was raided.
