This nuthatch was pecking away hard at the bumpy areas of the birch tree. I thought it must be finding some insects deep in the crevices or something. But these pictures suggest it is hiding sunflower seeds in the crevices. Who knew?!

Hit window at great speed while being pursued by a rival raptor. Died a few minutes later. Very awful event.
