@paul_crump with TPWD set up a sound recorder for hopefully detecting Houston Toads at the small stock tank on my property. I really enjoyed talking with him today!
Several El Camino Real TMN members visited Sumuel Park in Rockdale for a "physically-distanced" as opposed to "socially-distanced" survey of the wildlife in the city park.
This giant cottonwood tree with physically-distanced ECR TMN members @dsorenson, Donna Lewis, Scott Berger and @eaneubauer is huge.
See: https://txmn.org/elcamino/chapter-projects/special-projects/big-trees-of-milam-county/ for more info on this tree.
Today I had my camera at hand when I spotted the male painted bunting at the white millet seed feeder outside my kitchen window. Took lots of photos, obviously. Now I hear them in the trees all the time. :-)
Did not see the fly until I uploaded the photos. I ruined this guys dinner, I suppose.
My last addition to the 2020 Virtual Nature Venture challenge. I am just about iNat-ed out. Will probably wait till Monday to begin the NPSOT 2020 BioBlitz.
This may be the best set of trail cam images we've ever captured here on Salton Drive. Before the rains of Tropical Storm Beta began several days ago, I had let the bird bath dry out in an attempt to deter a flock of Common Grackles which were overwhelming our nearby bird feeders. I'm sure that was annoying to all the other resident birds and wildlife but notice how our local Gray Fox took it in stride! The fox showed up at 9 a.m. in the morning and spent nearly 20 minutes hanging out and resting on top of the bird bath. I have a long series of images of the fox occasionally getting up, circling around for a more comfortable position, snoozing, scratching an itch, etc. So cute!
Bird and Bee Farm
Walk along road and tank area
Not sure at all what this is on surface of tank.
Gelatinous growth on lawn, tentatively labeled Nostom.
Sparse single red fruit (berries? Peppers?)
Have seen these cocoons in the dirt around the house for years. Today, found a whole one and had my camera. Later found two cocoons (last two photos) that had been opened either naturally or otherwise.
A nice patch in my no-mow yard.
