Found this cocoon mid February and have been keeping it safe in a jar with air since then, it finally decided to hatch!! Checked on the jar and it was already out of the cocoon ready to spread its wings - sat for a while to get its bearings then I transferred it to a Sweetgum tree right next to where it hatched. Took 3 hours total to chill out, walk up the tree, move its wings on a high branch and then fly off at night (around 10:30pm it finally flew away). Such a special experience!

Found this lil one which I have never seen a color morph like this for a Mud snake. I determined it to be one based off the visual/physical features such as the “tail spine”, pattern, head/eye shape, as well as a divided anal plate.

On Ulmus americana

Co-discovered with @pantherophis (shown in last photo) on first American Elm we inspected on a trip to Vermont.

As far as we know, this is the first observation of EZS in Vermont. Other EZS were found throughout the day and will be uploaded to iNat.

After looking through Triepeolus species on BugGuide, I'm wondering if this might be Triepeolus eliseae. I have additional photos if they'd be helpful, but unfortunately only the one (included here in this entry) that shows the bee from the rear - and it's somewhat blurry as the bee was spinning on the flower when I snapped that picture, and it flew away a few seconds later. Bee found on rudbeckia, back yard.

First state record. At the most heavily sample site in the state. A. helianthi is abundant throughout the area, but Nomada appeared to be confined to a single patch of wild sunflowers. Likely 5-10 individuals, perhaps more. Multiple mating attempts seen

found on elderberry in mixed forest—based on Coccinellidae of N. America (Gordon), it seems more likely that it is this species than H. pratensis due to range (H. deludens range listed as New England to midwest, H. pratensis described as ‘known only to missouri and new jersey,’ but one record (https://eol.org/pages/1174576/media) did show this species in Maine) and body description: H. pratensis was noted to be elongate more like many Brachiacantha, while H. deludens described as ‘extremely convex, rounded’
