Alerted to its presence by an agitated, vocal Raven and several noisy hummingbirds trying to dislodge this napping owl, so far to no avail.

UPDATE, 2:36 PM: Owl still in same spot in same tree, one branch away from a nest that in 2021 hosted a mating pair of Cooper’s Hawks who raised one fledgling.

The squirrel is at the bird feeders almost every night since 2019-05-01 enjoying black oil sunflower seeds followed by a drink from the bird bath. There were two at the feeders almost nightly from late spring through most of November 2018. The squirrel(s) can be heard chittering in the trees at night when all is quiet. It is a distinctive sound. Sometimes two will be chatting with each other at the same time.

Sighted in the alley between Kensington and Edgeware in Angelino Heights. I see coyotes regularly in my neighborhood but usually at dusk or I catch them in my camera. This morning's sighting in broad daylight was unexpected and exciting.

Hatched today from its chrysalis kept in captivity after capturing caterpillars. Both wings of the butterfly appear to be curled on the upper tips. The right wing of the butterfly appears to be more severely affected by the affliction. The butterfly can’t fly normally, as when the butterfly attempts to fly, the sound of the wings hitting each other is audible and the butterfly flies around in circles.
Smallest of 2 caterpillars.

This is actually a new species of Aphonopelma that was discovered by Michael Jacobi (@michael_jacobi) and Dr. Brent E. Hendrixson in October 2019. Species is currently being described by Dr. Chris Hamilton; species name will be announced in his upcoming scientific publication. I also shot video since it was difficult to focus as it quickly scurried across the ground on a hillside that was badly burned in the 2011 Horseshoe 2 Fire.
