I used to run and hike this mountain often while attending MMI. I would see countless Chuckwallas along with crotalus atrox and crotalus pyrrhus. Most people never even see them. People have headphones in oblivious to what’s around them. I’d be taking photos of big orange back chucks and people would ask why I’m laying on the ground? What am I photographing? They couldn’t even see these chucks right in front of me looking directly at them! One guy said he has hiked the mountain over 20 years and never even noticed them. City people forget about the wilderness isolated to these little pockets inside of Phoenix. I’m super happy they survive and manage to make it with so many people building homes around their home.
