After many decades living at Lincoln University, the Burns Building pigeons are going to have to find a new home. The last of the building is being demolshed at the moment, and the new buildings that replace it are (purposefully) not pigeon friendly.
In the evenings the pigeons are still roosting on the last small part of the building that remains standing. I expect they don't know where else to go. There are very few cliff-like structures anywhere near Lincoln.

Feeding on Coprosma acutifolia berries near summit. This is the Kermadec race of tui - note the greenish colour and wide spacing between the white throat-tuft feathers.

It's been several years since I saw a White Heron, so was making the most out of being able to photograph this beautiful animal.
Was very cool to watch him preen away for ages, then take flight to survey his surroundings and then prowl around on the hunt for food.

I spotted a beached-wrecked bird carcass while patrolling Muriwai Beach. My friend, Ariel Wijaya, who I was walking with when I spotted the bird, then delivered it to Ian Mclean of Birds of New Zealand. Photos were taken and reviewed, and the general consensus was Little Bronze Cuckoo. Small, reddish-brownish bird, with rufous, black, and white undertail coverts. The bird is currently at the Auckland Museum and will be prepared as a specimen. This bird is native to Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Australia. New record for New Zealand.
