On a path in hardwood forest. Growing on an old railroad tie. Most trees around probably between 50-100 years old. Beech, oak, ash (dying), tulip polar are dominate canopy species with other native hardwood species present but less common.

I think this is velvet foot, though not 100% sure. It looks like someone came along and harvested this, since a lot of the fruiting bodies look like they were cut up.
