Remains of several crabs with blue colouring scattered along the beach.
Large male blue crab. Found in estuary.
On the beach in the intertidal zone but live, uncommon and potentially expanding range north of Buzzards Bay
Good numbers here
Feisty! Large and feisty! It was tricky finding a safe way to pick up this big beautiful crab. I've been visiting the ocean my entire life and had never seen one of these!
2nd observation of the day.
Buried under the sand with only a few spines poking out. We roused him out of his spot for a good look.
Blue crab are relatively rare in this area compared to other species (Lady Crab, Green Crab, Rock Crab, ...), but the last pair of legs are swimmerettes, body is dark and side spines are pointed like a blue crab (a bit easier to see in the video).
