Larvae found on and in a well decomposed kangaroo carcass.
body length about 20-30 mm
Feeding on Eucalyptus viminalis saplings (post-2020 fire regrowth), with one adult beetle and several larvae on the one plant. I know finding larvae and adults on the same plant doesn't guarantee they are the same species, and I can split the photos into two observations if anyone strongly feels I should.
5 Laughing Kookaburras perched in a Norfolk Island Pine at Murunna carpark.
Many of these frogs about 2.5 to 3.5cm long in pools at the edge of the Towamba River. The inside hind leg was patterned with black and pale orange markings.
From the description in Birds in the Australian High Country by HJ Frith the eggs and nest appear to belong to a Spotted Quail thrush which has been observed several times in this location. There were 3 brown and blue-grey speckled eggs about 3 x 2 cm in a cup shaped nest on the ground next to a Sedge.
According to other identifications, the eggs belong to a Painted Buttonquail, a species not observed at this location for 45 years since I started taking records.
